8 Animals to Feature in Your Wedding
There are lots of reasons why you’d want animals at your wedding. Perhaps you’ve got a furry friend you want to be there, or maybe you’re an animal lover and you’d never have considered not having animals at your wedding! From ring bearers to ultimate sidekicks, I’ve got some suggestions for making our animal friends a key part of your wedding:
Man’s Best Friend (and probably yours too!)
Who doesn’t want their dog at their wedding? They have a natural advantage in being trained which makes incorporating them into the day so much easier. There are lots of ways to get your perfect pooch into your wedding, as a ring bearer, groomsmen/bridesmaid, or just as a photogenic sidekick for your reception photos. They are also fabulous at being on trend - flower crown or bow tie anyone..?
Ah, so you’re a cat person! Ignore the dog section above, it’s all about your glamorous feline stealing your limelight on the big day. Cats don’t make good ringbearers, they’re too busy doing their own thing, but they are stunning models and will happily feature in your wedding photos. Watch out though, they can be divas and will easily steal your thunder!
Anyone who knows me knows I am obsessed with alpacas - they’re just so fluffy! These gentle companions are excellent ring bearers, great for wedding photos and provide entertainment for your guests too! They’ll definitely be a talking point on your special day for all the right reasons! I have a long list of alpaca farms I can recommend so if you’re looking for any recommendations get in touch!
These aren’t just for Harry Potter themed celebrations (although that works too!), owls love making a dramatic entrance! Whether you want them to swoop in to deliver your rings or be available for guests to see at your reception, they never fail to delight and intrigue. Combine this with other birds of prey and offer a falconry experience to your guests at the reception and they’ll be talking about it for years to come!
If you’ve grown up loving horses then you’ll be pleased to hear there are plenty of ways to incorporate them into your big day. You can ride in on one, ride away on them with your new spouse, or if you’re more inclined have a horse drawn carriage. It’s so easy to add some flowers or decoration to your horse’s halter to match your colour scheme/theme and if you tell your photographer in advance they’ll be able to get some great shots of you and your 4 legged companions.
I was in two minds whether to include this but I am because it’s too darn cute. Having adorable fluffy animals on your wedding day is a definite plus (they’re calming too for any nerves). Why wasn’t I sure whether to include petting zoos? As with all these suggestions, it’s all about the welfare. Petting zoos are brilliant fun for guests of all ages and will provide excellent photo opportunities. It’s massively important though to make sure the supplier of the zoo is reputable and the animals are respected and well looked after. Do that and you’ll have a lot of fun at your reception! Who doesn’t want to hold a duckling?!
Perhaps you’ve got a family pet at home that you want to include but they’re not really suitable to be taken to the wedding. It could be a hamster, rabbit, guinea pig, gecko, snake, or any other pet you have! Maybe they were your first pet as a couple or just provide you both with joy, whatever the reason there’s an easy way to include them. If you or your partner is getting ready at home, ask your photographer to take some snaps of you with your beloved pet at home before you head off to the ceremony. Even better, don’t tell your partner and when they see the photos they’ll be surprised at how much fun you were having getting ready on your big day!
I appreciate that this one is a bit out there however if you bear with me you’ll see why I’ve included this. Not only can you get married at a zoo or safari which is the ultimate animal lovers dream, giraffes seem to be amazing at photobombing. They pop their heads into wedding photos and make for some surprised couples and photographers alike! If you’re feeling less adventurous and don’t want to be tied to having your wedding at a zoo, you can always hire a giraffe - I love this one available from Wildly Wonderful Weddings!
